Editting of a Photo to blend?

(This work is not mine and was submitted as a competition entry for the 36 The Calls, Leeds, UK competition) I would like to ask what tools and effects you guys think the artist has used (Photoshop presumably) to the photograph that they have inserted their proposal into as it blends so well. I guess there will be Brightness/Contrast editting, but would filter like grain, noise etc be used? I really want to be able to produce such images but I really have no clue what the 'usual process of techniques' applied to an image to produce this are?! Any help or guidance would be veyr appreciated. Thanks, Hastings
